Different perspectives – Lesson 3
Eleanor’s point of view
The room was buzzing, Eleanor had invited all her best friends and neighbors to her fortieth birthday party. Forty was a big number that she was not ready to accept. The dress she had picked for the occasion was shimmering and attractive, everyone in the room would agree she looked radiant, even though a certain mood, she could not describe, was grinding thoughts in her head.
She walked around their big living room that ended in the open terrace and smiled at her guests, while she was searching for one in particular and saw her. Her husband’s colleague that he had been talking so much about, for the past couple of weeks. Francisca is so smart, Francisca is so social, Francisca is so flexible. It got to the point that it became annoying. Why so much talk about Francisca ? Was Peter in love with her ? And here she is at her birthday party. Why did he invite her ? It was obvious, he could not avoid it, god knows what kind of advances she had made to him. She looked aggressive in her tight red dress and raven hair, ready to shadow any other woman in the room. Eleanor was visibly irritated, she is going to take him away from me, she thought. She stared at them laughing and drinking her expensive champagne.
She walked toward them, a furious look on her face.
Francisca point of view
Francisca had better things to do that night than to go to her colleague’s wife birthday party. He was boring and she was probably boring too. With a name like Eleanor what would you expect. Alike attract each other. However, she had just been promoted thanks to the excellent evaluation Peter had given her, she wanted to be nice and when he asked her to go, she could not say no. She had to buy her a present too. What do you give someone you don’t know who’s boring ? She opted for a scented candle.
That night she pulled the first dress she found in her clean clothes bunch. She had used her better outfits for more entertaining events, like the one she had planned for that night. The dress was a bit tight but who would notice at a busy party and she had already planned to leave early anyhow.
Here she was, in a room filled with strangers, older than she was and they all looked boring. She followed Peter to the terrace, he had the excuse he wanted to talk about business. She thought he was infatuated with her. She would have to put a stop to this soon, before it got out of hand.
