Terry asked me to give you this. I spelled her name the way she liked. The Y instead of J.” She held my fingers when she took the gift. A little longer than what was expected and maybe it is just me but why is her blouse so short today? I averted my eyes to see her smiling as if she knew what I was thinking. Could it be?

We locked eyes for a little when our fingers met. Her hands were a little cold but soft and…tender. Her eyes looked like jewels and…and the way she smiled with her eyes.

It was intoxicating!

No, I can’t do that to him. Especially when he is hiding in the balcony. Most likely watching her, to give her the surprise. Her blouse is floral just like the way I met her first. Crimson like blood and covered with thorns. Dangerous yet beautiful.

“Uh, Jasmine. Your hands….I need to go, now.” I forced the words out of my mouth. She has the perfect dimples and the way she acted innocent. Her perfume is mixed with the subtle floral scent underneath a more exquisite fragrance I could not tell but I loved it. It was balanced, sweet, tempting yet endearing. I find my heart skipped a beat as she nonchalantly showed her legs, almost bare, in front of me. I could see her high heels that she bought when we were shopping yesterday, together. And her question to me,”If time can rewind where we first met, would you have courted me instead of Terry?”

“Surprise!” Terry jumped from the balcony. My heart jumped but my face remained stoic. Not in front them, no.

“Hey, Terry. I got to go now. I just remembered that I needed to do something for my sister. I leave you two lovebirds on your own.” I tried my best to sound busy but she showed me her long, perfect slender legs again, this time behind his back! I could make out the words in her mouth. “Meet me here tomorrow night here.” Then she waved her handphone at me and made the digit 7.

To yield or not to yield? Terry did snatched her away from me during highschool first. I pretended it was okay all along. I didn’t want to jeopardize our friendship but lately, he himself had an affair with me keeping mum. Was it out for revenge? I was pretty sure she knew it. He wasn’t a very careful guy, impulsive? Very. And Jasmine, observant, smart, classy, sharp and conniving at times. I have seen rugby boys fell head over heels over her and they fought to get her attention but she went straight to me instead and I shielded her when a dejected guy rushed at her. And then Terry came.

I left. Their laughter’s echoed down the staircase. I took the long route down to escape. Perhaps it was right to cut in between them. No, I will remain their friend not a third wheel.

Time to work faraway from them. Out of sight, out of mind. Still, her lingering perfume on my sleeves, I couldn’t resist. I smelled it and she saw it out of her window at me. Our eyes met for a brief moment and she smiled triumphantly, looking down at me.

“Hey, Jasmine.
