Twelve years on, or thirteen?

When Mike walked into the restaurant Stan was already waiting for him at a table for two with a view. Stan waved cheerfully as Mike approached him with a swagger, looking around.

“You chose this place or they just thrust it on you?” asked Mike.

“Something wrong?”

“It’s too cramped up here, more so for you with your new size,” said Mike with a grin.

“Should we change?” asked Stan.

“Of course, I am not going sit in this corner and eat my lunch with you. Go talk to that head waiter and ask for a better seat. If he has any problem, tell him Mike wants it.”

Stan reluctantly got the seat changed.

“Been a long time, twelve years?” Said Stan.

“Thirteen to be exact since we graduated.”

“Yes indeed! What have you been up to?”

“Not something I can tell you in a minute or an hour for that matter, but it has been hectic. Life has been full of challenges. Certainly, mine is not a nine-to-five job, no offence meant.” Said Mike with a twisted smile.
