After finding the secret door in the basement and encountering…I don’t know what, I haven’t been down there. It has been days and I still don’t know what to do about whatever is living down there. I debated just never going down there again and hoping that the door continues to prevent whatever that was from getting out. Part had talked myself into thinking that I had imagined the whole thing and maybe it was just a stray spider web that struck me the wrong way.
I opened the basement door slowly with a feeling of anticipation that something may jump out from right behind the door. The light was still on in the basement. I started down the stairs and heard every creak of the wooden stairs as I descended. Nothing in the basement seemed to have been disturbed other than the large armoire that I slid out of the way to uncover the door.
I was sweating profusely and my heart was pounding in my ears. It seemed like an eternity until I reached the bottom of the stairs. The smells remained of a typical urban basement, musty and stale. I made my way over to the armoire and the door in the wall that was behind it.
I decided to open the door again and see if I could find my phone that I dropped in my escape the last time I was down here. I turned the handle to slide the metal slats inward and they clanked into place. I pulled open the door and peered into the blackness beyond. I saw my phone laying just a few feet into the room beyond the door. I’m sure I can dash in and grab it and get back out before anything could reach me.
I took a few deep breaths and wiped the sweat from my forehead on my shirt sleeve. My whole body was shaking. It had to have been my imagination. What could possibly be living in this dank dark hole in the wall? Okay, here I go.
I dashed through the door and tripped on my own feet and landed face first on the concrete floor. It knocked the wind out of me and my panic tripled. I quickly got back up feeling around for my phone. Got it. I turned to get the hell out of there. Just two steps and I would be safe. Then I see the door swinging closed with a bang. The light from the basement was cut off and I heard the metal bars sliding back into place. In the pitch black now I scrambled to the door and banged on the metal. I screamed. In comprehensible sounds. My worst nightmare. Then I felt it more and anything. Something was moving behind me.
