Friday night. Even though the schoolyard brawl between Luke and Jimmy Morgan three days prior, the thought of revenge is still tugging at Luke. Nevertheless, the Switzer boys, Luke and John, are looking forward to the upcoming weekend.
Restless, they jump into Luke’s rusty pickup truck for a nighttime drive around the county. The gas tank only registered a quarter tank of gas and neither boy had cash. So, their joy ride would likely be short-lived.
Suddenly, they spotted Jimmy’s prized possession, a royal blue 1972 Camaro, in the parking lot of “Millies,” a local dive bar.
“Lucky us! There’s Jimmy’s car,” Luke shouted, pointing towards the crowded parking lot ahead. Jimmy’s car was parked in the back between two other cars and hidden from plain view.
Jimmy said to his younger brother, “We should key the crap of his car”.
Confused, John asked himself if Luke’s words were a simple suggestion or an actual instruction. We or me?
Luke stopped the truck on the apron of the parking lot and gave his brother a nudge. “Go,” he said.
Thoughts of parking lot cameras and being arrested by police quickly ran though John’s head. He did not want to go to jail for vandalism. He was only sixteen. He was not as tough as his brother. He would never survive.
“You do it,” John protested. This exchange went on for another four minutes. In the end, John would not budge and refused to key Jimmy’s car. Frustrated with his little brother’s inaction, Luke sped off. He would have to get back at Jimmy another day.
