She was pulling the sheets up tight on the bed when her cell phone rang. She wasn’t supposed to take calls at work but with the ear buds no one would know that she wasn’t listening to music or a podcast. She clicked the accept button on the phone.
“Hello,”
“Hey Lisa, its Marcy. Sorry to bother you at work but I need your advice.”
“Okay, but can we make it quick? I have a lot of work to do this morning to get all of the rooms cleaned before noon.” She finished making the bed and placed the pillows at the head of the bed and fluffed them just right.
“Yes, I will make it quick, it’s just that Justin didn’t come home again last night and I don’t know what to think. I know he is 17 now but it worries me. I don’t know what he is up to.”
Lisa did one last scan of the room to make sure it was finished and went back to the hallway to move her cart down to the next room.
“I can understand your worry, but Justin is a good kid. I am sure he is just pushing your boundaries to see how much he can get away with. He will be going away to college soon and he is almost 18.”
“You are right, I don’t have to get use to the idea that he isn’t going to be under foot all of the time anymore and he has always been a good kid. I am sure he will use good judgement whatever he gets into. It is just hard for a mother to let them go.”
Lisa knocked on the next room, “Housekeeping.” No answer, she used her master to open the door and put a block in the door to hold it open. “My god….”
“What Lisa, what’s the matter…”
“This room is a mess, looks like a tornado blew through her. What is wrong with people?”
“Yes, that has got to be tough dealing with everyone else’s mess.”
Yea, but it’s a job and it keeps me busy. I can understand your situation. I had my own struggles when the kiddos flew the coup. You just have to trust that you gave them what they need to be good people and be there when things don’t go their way. Too much hovering and they will just push you away.”
“Yea, I get that but easier said than done. You know the kinds of bad decisions we made as teenagers. That is what makes me crazy.”
“Oh the good ole days.” She smiled as she continued to pick up towels that were strewn all over the floor.
