Having fallen asleep just two hours before – a perpetual night owl – Amy was suddenly awakened by unrecognizable footsteps resonating from creaking floorboards at the far end of her bungalow. She could also smell the sweet smell of cinnamon toast creeping beneath her bedroom door.
“What the….?” Was this really happening or was she stuck inside of a bad dream?
Suddenly, an unknown force jolted Amy from her sleep. She sat up in her bed and turned to look at the display of the alarm clock. 3:45 AM.
Her breathing sped up and panic quickly set in. Now, Amy knew for sure that she was not dreaming and that something was wrong because she lived alone.

Creepy! I think you’ve achieved a good scene here. I find myself wondering if inner dialogue is much harder to show from 3rd POV.
You made cinnamon toast feel scary! Good job!
