“Well?”
Rei was steadfast. She did not want to divulge anything Shiro suspected she knew about the Mizuki sisters.
Even when cornered, even with her back pressed against the stone-cold cement wall of the dilapidated factory where they had met that day, her lips remained pressed shut.
Shiro took out the flip-knife he had a habit of carrying and inched closer to her.
“Now’s as good a time as any,” he said, his tone laced with menace. “Tell me—where are they living?”
Rei gulped. She balled her hands into fists so tight they blanched.
She couldn’t. She wouldn’t betray them.
Not after they opened their home to her.
“I—”
“Don’t you dare tell me you don’t know,” he cut in, his knife mere millimetres away from piercing her pale, clammy neck.
Her eyes widened.
Her pupils dilated.
Her body trembled.
“I’ll… see what I can find out.” She swallowed hard. “I promise.”
